On 30 May 2005, members of the Stanley L. Moore Detachment and other veterans and citizens attended a memorial service at the Troy Civic Center in Troy Michigan. Lt. Joseph Malla, USN, Retired was the Master of Ceremonies and put together a fitting tribute to our fallen comrades in arms. The Troy Heritage Band under the direction of Mr Larry Huntington provided stirring patriotic music and a tribute to each Armed Forces Branch was played. Mayor Louise E. Schilling was the guest speaker and spoke of how veterans blend into communities when their service is complete and how they continue to serve. The keynote speaker was Brigadier General Donald Schenk, US Army, Retired. The General's remarks centered around the origins of Memorial Day and he performed the honors of placing Memorial wreaths at the Veterans Monument. Colors were very aptly handled by two members of the Troy Police Honor Guard resplendant in their dress uniforms. All in all the Ceremony was fitting and very moving. I was honored to be in attendance.
